Executive and strategic analysis of production information was consistently held up by fragmented and inaccurate data.

Situation

Plant production numbers were managed through a combination of Microsoft Excel files, Microsoft Word documents, hand written notes, and email correspondence.

Supervisors were responsible for their own collection of data which was resulting in varied formats and frequently required clarification when assembling summaries

Reports were inconsistent in format and reliability

Solution

Based on some conversation, example reports and data files, we proposed and developed a secured internal web application. Functionality was divided into three user roles; data entry, reporting, and administrative.

Data Entry Role

  • Provides a simple form with appropriate selection lists, validated numerical fields, and text based fields
  • Forces users to enter information consistently

Reporting Role

  • Provides push button access to numerous reports, charts, and data analysis functionality using real-time information.
  • Reports are consistently formatted independent of the person retrieving the report.
  • Appropriate data filters are provided to focus on more specific information when necessary.

Administrative Role

  • Allows the user to maintain selection list data
  • Provides an ability to edit data if necessary
  • Add or remove users and assign user roles
